COLUMBUS—The Franklin County Commissioners have appointed Tariq Tarey to the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) Board of Trustees. He fulfills a seven-year term that commenced Jan. 1, 2023 and ends Dec. 31, 2029.

Tarey, who currently serves as Director of Refugee Social Services for Jewish Family Services, was officially sworn in during today’s Board of Trustees meeting. He fills the seat recently vacated by Katie Chatas who, after seven years on the Board of Trustees, completed her service at the end of 2022. CML’s seven-member Board of Trustees is responsible for guiding major decisions about library strategies, policies, services and budget.

Columbus Metropolitan Library has served the people of Franklin County, Ohio since 1873. With its Main Library and 22 branches, CML is well known for signature services and programs like School Help, Reading Buddies, Summer Reading Challenge and Ready for Kindergarten. The library’s Strategic Plan supports the vision of “a thriving community where wisdom prevails,” which positions CML to respond to areas of urgent need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college and career readiness and employment resources.
