Temporary location to close on Nov. 22

COLUMBUS—Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will officially open its new Barnett Branch at 3434 E. Livingston Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 13 following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

Before the new branch opens, however, CML will close the temporary Barnett location at 3227 E. Livingston Ave. Its last day of operation is Saturday, Nov. 22. At 6 p.m., the temporary location will close permanently, and customers are encouraged to visit nearby locations for library services, including CML’s Driving Park and Whitehall branches, until the new Barnett Branch opens three weeks later.

The Barnett Branch at 3434 E. Livingston Ave. was built in 1992. It was formerly known as the Livingston Branch until it was renamed in 2019. The new Barnett Branch, under construction on the same site, will nearly double the size of the former branch from roughly 12,300 square feet to approximately 22,000 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and Schooley Caldwell and Evoke Studio are the architects.

CML kicked off construction of the new branch with a “wallbreaking” ceremony on May 22, 2024. When it opens, its hours of operation will be:

Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday: 1-5 p.m.

The library’s Strategic Plan supports the vision of “a thriving community where wisdom prevails,” which positions CML to respond to areas of urgent need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college and career readiness and employment resources.
