COLUMBUS—Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will officially open its new Canal Winchester Branch at 123 Groveport Rd. on Saturday, Jan. 10 following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
Before the new branch opens, however, CML will close the current Canal Winchester Branch at 115 Franklin St. Its last day of operation is Tuesday, Dec. 23. At 8 p.m., the branch will close permanently, and customers are encouraged to visit nearby locations for library services, including CML’s Reynoldsburg and Southeast branches, until the new Canal Winchester Branch opens a few weeks later. Note: All CML locations are closed on Dec. 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And all CML locations are closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in observance of New Years Eve and New Years Day.
The current Canal Winchester Branch at 115 Franklin St. opened in 2016 as an “express branch” to serve a community that did not previously have close access to library services. The new, standalone Canal Winchester Branch under construction at 123 Groveport Rd. will be more than five times the size of the current branch, from roughly 5,400 square feet to approximately 30,000 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and Bostwick Design Partnership is the architect.
CML broke ground on the new branch in summer 2024. When it opens, its hours of operation will be:
Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday: 1-5 p.m.
