COLUMBUS—Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will officially open its new Marion-Franklin Branch at 2800 Lockbourne Rd. on Saturday, Oct. 18 following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
Before the new branch opens, however, CML will close the current Marion-Franklin Branch at 2740 Lockbourne Rd. Its last day of operation is Friday, Oct. 3. At 6 p.m., the branch will close permanently, and customers are encouraged to visit nearby locations for library services, including CML’s Parsons and South High branches, until the new Marion-Franklin Branch opens 15 days later.
The current Marion-Franklin Branch, located within the former Beery Middle School at 2740 Lockbourne Rd., opened in 2014 as an “express branch” to serve a community that did not previously have close access to library services. It has remained open during construction of the new branch. The new, standalone Marion-Franklin Branch, located a few blocks to the south of the current branch, will more than double its size from roughly 4,000 square feet to approximately 10,000 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and Schooley Caldwell and EVOKE Studio are the architects.
CML broke ground on the new branch on July 29, 2024. When it opens, its hours of operation will be:
Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday: 1-5 p.m.
