Grand opening to fall on library’s 150th birthday

COLUMBUS—On Saturday, March 4, Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will open its new Gahanna Branch to the public with a brief dedication ceremony followed by a grand opening celebration. The event, which coincides with CML’s 150th birthday, is free and open to all.

Following brief remarks and a ribbon-cutting by library and city officials, attendees can celebrate both the grand opening of the new branch and CML’s birthday with refreshments, music and entertainment. Plus, all are welcome to explore the new branch (see rendering), whether on their own or as part of staff-guided tours. Visitors can also sign up for a commemorative library card and register for a chance to win an eReader.

The former Gahanna Branch, built in 1991 and renovated in 1998, was one of the most heavily used in CML’s 23-location system. The new two-level Gahanna Branch, currently being built on the same site, will nearly double its size from roughly 21,400 square feet to approximately 35,300 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and NBBJ is the architect.

The Gahanna Branch project is part of Phase II of CML’s Aspirational Building Program.
