Library to kick off 2019 Family Programs at Main Library with Urban Strings on Feb. 24

COLUMBUS—Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) is bringing back Family Programs at Main Library for its third year, kicking off with a concert from Urban Strings on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.

Cellos in the Atrium

Sunday, March 24 | 2 p.m.

Side-by-side chamber music performance by central Ohio’s brightest rising cellists from CELLOhio and Columbus Cello School. Grab a book and listen to Bach.


The Ugly Duckling by Opera Columbus

Tuesday, April 2 | 10:30 a.m.

Hear a whimsical performance of the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. Through music and song, children K-5 will explore themes of diversity, acceptance and bravery.


Ohioana Book Festival

Saturday, April 27 | 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Meet over 130 Ohio authors and illustrators, hear panel discussions and enjoy special activities for children and teens. Shop a wide selection of books for readers of all ages.


ProMusica Strings in the Atrium

Sunday, May 12 | 3 p.m.

Musicians link classical music and children’s literature for family concerts focusing on music themes with books and stories that connect to the music. Recommended for grades K-5.


Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff with Jim Gill

Saturday, June 1 | 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Fun activities kick off our Summer Reading Challenge, when readers of all ages can earn prizes for just reading. Two special performances by musician and storyteller Jim Gill.


PBJ and Jazz in Topiary Park Family Concert Series

Second Saturdays, June-September | 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Storytime in the library followed by a lively outdoor jazz concert and a creative craft activity. Bring your picnic lunch and a blanket.


Andrew Carnegie Day

Sunday, Aug. 11

An afternoon of activities to remember and celebrate Mr. Carnegie, who funded the building of Main Library and over 2,500 other libraries throughout the world.


Cartoon Crossroads Columbus

Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. & Sunday, Sept. 29 from 1-5 p.m.

The international comics and cartoon festival visits Main Library for a fourth year. Meet popular children’s and teen graphic artists, shop the Marketplace for original art, mini-comics, graphic novels and signed works and hear from popular artists during panel discussions.


Pinocchio Puppet Show

Thursday, Oct. 10 | 10:30 a.m.

Cincinnati’s MadCap Puppets brings a touring performance of Pinocchio to Main Library. Great show for school groups PreK-3.


Hands On Chemistry

Saturday, Oct. 26 | 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The American Chemistry Society brings science to life with hands-on demonstrations about physical, earth and space sciences.


Holiday Open House

Wednesday, Nov. 27 | 6-8 p.m.

See the official launch of the Huntington Holiday Train. Create holiday crafts and enjoy live music and refreshments. Special guests.


All events are free and open to all. The first hour of parking is free in Main Library’s garage.

Columbus Metropolitan Library has served the people of Franklin County, Ohio since 1873.
