Library expands Marion-Franklin Branch hours and announces Canal Winchester Branch hours to match

COLUMBUS—At its Oct. 29, 2015 meeting, the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) Board of Trustees voted to expand the hours of operation for the Marion-Franklin Branch. The previous hours were 2-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2-6 p.m. Saturday.

Effective for 2016, the new hours are noon-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-6 p.m. Saturday.

The Marion-Franklin Branch opened with limited hours on Sept. 15, 2014 in order to gauge customer usage. After assessing branch visits and receiving feedback from customers, the recommendation was made to the Trustees to expand the hours.

Additionally, these same expanded hours of operation will be used at the new Canal Winchester Branch when it opens later this month. Children and community leaders will help cut the ribbon at the dedication ceremony, which will take place at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25. Members of the media are invited to attend the highly visual event, which will be held in the former gymnasium of the former Canal Winchester High School (currently the Canal Winchester Education Center) at 100 Washington St. The address of the branch, however, is 115 Franklin St., accessible at the rear of the building.

Columbus Metropolitan Library has served the people of Franklin County, Ohio since 1873. With its Main Library and 22 branches, CML is well known for signature services and programs like Homework Help Centers, Reading Buddies, Summer Reading Club and Ready for Kindergarten. The library’s Strategic Plan supports the vision of “a thriving community where wisdom prevails,” which positions CML to respond to areas of urgent need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college readiness and employment resources.

CML was named a 2011 National Medal Winner by the Institute for Museum and Library Services for work in community service, the highest honor for libraries and museums. Columbus Metropolitan Library has been rated a 5-Star Library by Library Journal for seven of the eight years the magazine has published its industry ratings.
