Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us
Michael Moss
February 25, 2013

No surprises here, big food companies only care about making money and selling product. Who cares if the consumer gets obese and addicted to bad food. Like drug dealers, many of the executives of these big companies don't touch the stuff they make and market to the hilt.

Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time
Mark Adams
February 18, 2013

This was a good read for a gray Ohio winter. Adams is self deprecating and an interesting writer who makes this adventure come to life rather than beating you over the head with tons of facts and history.

A Short Guide to a Happy Life
Anna Quindlen
February 11, 2013

A short book but powerful reminder of what we should focus on in life. My favorite line was that we should live our lives not just exist.

Naked Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Data
Charles Wheelan
February 6, 2013

This is Wheelan's second book and just as good as the first, Naked Economics!  What I like about his books - he explains subjects that surround us every day in a very readable fashion.  It is important that we understand what numbers are being tossed around in the media, at work and so this book does exactly as the titles says, strips the dread from data.

Wonder
R. J. Palacio
February 1, 2013

The Newbery Award winner and honor books were announced on Monday.  If you don't know - the Newbery honors the most outstanding contribution to children's literature.  Well, I'm cranky because one of the best children's books I read last year wasn't mentioned at all!  It was Wonder by Palacio and what a fantastic read. I may have blogged about this book before but I'm giving it another push because it is such a great book.  Auggie is born with a facial deformity and overcomes it with such grace and maturity - we can all learn a lesson from him.
