Reminiscent of a gothic romance, this is a great read that had me guessing all the way to the end. Set in rural Wisconsin in 1901, Ralph Truitt waits for the woman who has answered his add for a "reliable wife".
I was practically born with a book in my hands. An avid reader my entire life, I read about 70-80 books a year. Yep, bona fide book nerd! I mainly read fiction, mysteries, fantasy, and some sci-fi. My favorite book of all time is Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh - read it as a kid and probably 100 times since then. I walked into a library around age 5 and thought I had found heaven, which explains why I am happy as a clam being a public librarian today! My favorite conversation starter: "Read any good books lately?"

Man this was a great book. I didn't read it when it got great reviews or won the National Book Award but I see why. Patti Smith can write and does she have an interesting life story. I read the book in one sitting and still keep thinking about various passages and incidents from her story.
Read this one last year and wasn't sure I would like it, set in a boys' school in Dublin, bit slow to start. But once I got going - really liked it. Skippy Dies is a coming of age story only with a twist.
You may recognize the author's name but not with this title. Suzanne Collins is the author of the very popular series, The Hunger Games. Before that she wrote this series written for a younger audience. I enjoyed the world building. Gregor and his little sister are charming characters that you root for the entire book. I will definitely continue following their adventures in Underland!
I'm not usually a fan of books about war, but I'm glad I made an exception for The Yellow Birds. I don't think I can put into words how great this book is - well written, philosophically provoking, and heart rending. It opens with this amazing line that pulled me in and kept me reading in one sitting, "The war tried to kill us in the spring".
