If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name
by Heather Lende
July 27, 2012

Growing up in a small town, I totally identified with Heather's tales of small town Alaska.  Since we are suffering through a hot summer, this book about Alaska is a nice arm chair travel to a cooler place.

Arctic Rising
by Tobias Buckell
July 23, 2012

Found this book via NPR's Summer Best Sci-Fi list posted on June 19, 2012.  Set in the not too distant future, global warming has happened and the Arctic Cap has all but melted.  Anika Duncan is an airship pilot for the United Nations Polar Guard who is on duty one day when she spots a ship setting off radiation detector in her airship.  Flagging the ship down is the first step in a dangerous hunt for nuclear weapons.  Good read on a hot summer day!

Don't Ever Get Old
by Daniel Friedman
July 17, 2012

I have a new hero - Buck Schatz.  He's an eighty-seven year old, smart mouth retired cop.  He served in WWII and now retired over 30 years from the force.  Fighting old age is his last battle or so he thought. An old army buddy tells Buck on his death bed that he saw the Nazi officer who beat Buck, still alive.  Now Buck has a decision to make - find the truth or wait for death to get him.

The 500
by Matthew Quirk
July 12, 2012

Take the book Beat the Reaper, cross it with The Firm and you get The 500.  If you can't suspend disbelief, this book isn't for you but if you like your thrillers fast paced and heart pounding - in for a good read.  This one has movie written all over it.

The Orchard
by Theresa Weir
July 5, 2012

I am not a big biograpy reader, but I picked up The Orchard based on a rave review by a friend and was not disappointed.  Theresa marries a prominent apple farmer and her life goes from city survival to life on a midwestern farm. While this sounds dry, throw in a domineering mother-in-law and the fact that Theresa can write narrative that grips tight and you have a great read!

Naked Economics
by Charles Wheelan
July 1, 2012

I never took an Econ class but this book simplified the topic better than any college course probably could have.  Great read, no really, you will learn about economics and have fun!
