Ohio Humanities and the Columbus Metropolitan Library seek community members who are interested in recording the history of race and ethnicity in Columbus to take part in an Oral History training institute on August 12, 2017 at the Columbus Main Library. Capturing stories through oral history helps to go beyond written documents to provide evidence of the past. From the debate surrounding school desegregation to the building of Interstate 71, many in Columbus have their own stories to tell. Oral history allows community members from all walks of life to share their experiences with authenticity and nuance. Help us capture this untold history. Participants will receive instruction on interviewing techniques, recording technology, and project design. Additional training and recording resources for preserving your stories may be made available for selected interviews courtesy of Columbus Metropolitan Library and Ohio Humanities. After this introductory workshop, participants will be invited to attend sessions on August 17th and 24th, 2017 to work on projects. Ohio Humanities and the Columbus Metropolitan Library invite individuals to participate in oral history training through this workshop. Please apply with your name, contact information, and reason for attending via email at jimc@ohiohumanities.org or call 614-461-7802. Deadline is August 1st, 2017.
