What am I searching?
You are searching a collection of websites that CML librarians have selected for quality and content. These resources have been assigned to categories which you can browse or search.
Refining Your Search:
The search option allows you to simply enter a word or phrase that you are looking for. Advanced users can even use Boolean operators and wildcards. Website titles, subjects, annotations and URLS are searched.
Boolean Searches:
Using AND, OR, NOT, and NEAR will allow you to find more specific information. You will need to capitalize these words if you are performing a Boolean Search.
AND
Searches for websites that contain both words. For example: Ohio AND Buckeyes.
OR
Searches for websites that contain either word. For example: Science OR Art.
NOT
Searches for websites that do not contain the word that follows it. For example: Recipes NOT Chocolate.
NEAR
You can broaden your search by using the word NEAR. For example, entering Europe NEAR back door will find Rick Steve's Europe Through the Back Door.
Searching for Phrases:
"Quotation Marks"
Placing quotation marks around words will search for those words as a phrase, meaning the words must appear in exact order.
Using Wildcards:
If you are not sure of the exact spelling of a word, or you want to find different forms of a word, wildcard operators are useful.
The asterisk (*) is a substitute for any number of characters. For example, entering teach* will find teach, teachers, teacher, teaching, teaches, etc.
What if I get too many results?
- Try combining search terms with 'AND'. Using 'AND' will result only in pages where both search terms are found.
- Try using 'NOT'. This will help eliminate certain keywords from your search results.
What if I get too few results?
- Check your spelling.
- Did you use 'AND' to combine search terms? Try using 'OR' instead.
- Did you use a plural search term? Try using the singular term instead.
- Think in broad terms. If you are looking for information on Abraham Lincoln, try 'president' as a search term.
