When is the library’s IM service available?
Monday – Thursday 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.; Friday, Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.
IM service will not be available on
holidays when all library locations are closed.
How do I text the library using my cell phone?
Send a message via your cell phone to
265010. In the body of the text, type
colslib: followed by your message. The library will respond to your phone via our IM service.
(Charges for a standard text message from your cell phone service provider may apply.)
What kind of questions can I ask?
Any question you would typically ask us at the library is welcome through IM. However, simple questions that only require a short answer are most appropriate. We will do our best to answer any question or redirect you to a more appropriate resource.
Will my question be answered immediately?
We will try to respond to each customer immediately. Because more than one message may come in at one time, we will let you know if we are helping another customer or if there may be a wait. If you can’t wait, call our Information Line at 614-645-2ASK(2275) during the hours listed above. You may also
email us or contact our
Know It Now or
Homework Now services any time.
Is my conversation with library staff private?
Instant messaging at the library involves one private conversation between two people, you and a library staff member. We do not keep chat logs on file. At the time of your transaction, users with email can request their transcript by clicking on the envelope icon in the chat box.
Do I need an IM account to send a message to the library?
No. If you don’t have an account with an IM service, simply use the
chat box located on our website.
What if I already have or want to create my own IM account?
If you wish to download your own IM client, there are several popular ones listed here. To get an account, you will need to select a user name and/or screen name. You can IM the library directly from your account by adding our user name listed below to your contact list.
