The National Academies
The National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council (NRC) cooperate to provide a Web site that incorporates up-to-date information for the public about the broad range of science, technology, and health policy issues within their mandates. A sophisticated search engine displays results with hits organized into organizational categories. Full-text online journals are included.
The Weather Channel
Very informative site for weather forecasts and weather news, much like its cable network station. This is a good source to consult to get weather conditions before traveling.
Web Elements Periodic Table
This site offers two levels of detail: student/scholar and professional/researcher. Both allow the user to select an element and display a basic profile. Clicking on the "Index" tab displays a massive table of contents with links to properties of the elements. Specific profiles (compounds, electronic, physical), may also be selected and displayed. This site claims the distinction of being the first to display the periodic table on the web.
