No writer - except perhaps for his father, Michael Shaara and his Pulitzer Prize-winning historical novel, The Killer Angels - better brings the Civil War to life than Jeff Shaara. The multiple-award-winning, New York Times bestselling author began a new Civil War trilogy in 2012 with A Blaze of Glory, about the Battle of Shiloh. A Chain of Thunder: A Novel of the Siege of Vicksburg is the second book, and depicts the turning point of the Civil War through not just the well-known personalities like Grant and Pemberton. Shaara's unique skill is in bringing the soldiers themselves alive, in getting the reader to feel what it was like on that bloody battlefield where over 19,000 soldiers lost their lives.

Tour of Franklinton Cycling Race and Rally

Tour of Franklinton is the first of seven races in the 2013 Ohio Criterium Cup. There are many competitive disciplines in cycling. Road races (think Tour de France), mountain biking, short track, downhill, cyclocross; they are all on two wheels yet require vastly different rider skills and equipment. The Tour of Franklinton is a crit race, crit being short for criterium. The Race course will snake around the closed streets surrounding the 400 Rich warehouse and the newly opened Rehab Tavern, including parts of State, Town and Rich streets. Racers, grouped by similar abilities, complete as many laps of the .8 mile course as they can in the allotted time, usually 30-60 minutes. There is also a family-friendly bike rally with activities for kids 10 and under and free kids "race" is at 3pm.

BalletMet: Classroom and Beyond

Students of the BalletMet Dance Academy will share with the community a program showcasing their talent and training in a variety of dance styles including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Flamenco and Modern dance. The showcase will feature the littlest ballerinas and dancers progressing through movement performances to the highest level pre-professional Performance Ensemble students who will perform excerpts from such classic ballets as Napoli, La Bayadere and Don Quixote. Modern and Jazz works have been choreographed for the occasion by Maria Glimcher, Dionysia Williams and Crissy Stridsburg.

This is an important because we like to do everything as the base ball players of 1860 did it: We play by their rules, dress in their uniforms, and exemplify their gentlemanly behavior. Games are played against other vintage teams from Ohio and across the country.
